Stacey Abrams: a six-week-old baby’s heartbeat is “a manufactured sound” and a “tool of patriarchy.”

In a video that has recently surfaced, Georgia Democrat Stacey Abrams claims that a baby’s heartbeat at six weeks is not real but a “manufactured sound designed” to take away women’s rights.

After an unsuccessful 2018 run, Abrams is once again running for governor of Georgia. Notably, the Democrat did not follow protocol and conceded the race to Republican Governor Brian Kemp. Instead, he blamed “voter suppression” and the inefficiency of the system.

“There is no such thing as a heartbeat at six weeks,” Abrams said while serving on a panel. “It is a manufactured sound designed to convince people that men have the right to take control of a woman’s body in place of her.”

It’s not clear how or by whom Abrams got her outlandish advice that a baby’s ‘ heartbeat is “manufactured,” but that seems to be what she’s referring to.

However, many academics, scientists, and medical professionals agree that a baby’s heart usually begins beating somewhere between six and ten weeks into pregnancy. Nonprofit organization Charlotte Lozier Institute (CLI) outlined the following based on findings from peer-reviewed science:

  • The heart is actively beating at 6 weeks. Between conception and birth the baby’s heart will beat approximately 54 million times.
  • The baby’s average heart rate is 98 BPM. This will rise to 175 BPM by 9 weeks’ gestation.
  • The presence of a heartbeat at 6-8 weeks’ gestation correlates with a live birth rate of 98% in normal pregnancies without intervention.
  • The brain has divided into three primary sections responsible for sensing and decision-making, moving and tracking objects, and vital body functions.
  • Eyes, ears, and nose start forming.

“While some people falsely claim that a preborn baby at 6 weeks’ gestation is just a clump of cells, science demonstrates the baby is already a complex human being,” asserted Dr. Tara Sander Lee, a senior fellow and director of life sciences at CLI. “A preborn baby’s heart is actively beating at 6 weeks and will have already beat nearly 16 million times by 15 weeks. In fact, at 6 weeks’ gestation, the baby’s heart rate is about 98 beats per minute, which can be easily detected by ultrasound.”

According to Healthline,

A fetal heartbeat may first be detected by a vaginal ultrasound as early as 5 1/2 to 6 weeks after gestation. That’s when a fetal pole, the first visible sign of a developing embryo, can sometimes be seen.

But between 6 1/2 to 7 weeks after gestation, a heartbeat can be better assessed. That’s when your doctor may schedule your first abdominal or vaginal ultrasound to check for signs of a healthy, developing pregnancy.

Since the developing heart doesn’t have all four chambers yet, the heartbeat of a child at six weeks gestation is more accurately described as “cardiac activity,” which Abrams may be alluding to.

Specifically, “cardiac” is defined by Merriam-Webster as “of, relating to, situated near, or acting on the heart.”

Stacey Abrams is a Puppet

Many people made fun of Abrams online for his outlandish comments, with some even comparing them to a conspiracy theory.

Stacey Abrams promotes the conspiracy theory that the ultrasound machines now standard in hospitals around the world were developed by a group of male scientists and doctors who intentionally created a pulsing sound to encourage women to carry to term when they did not want to.

To put it bluntly, politics is a filthy occupation. When given to the wrong people, however, even small amounts of power can have disastrous results. But at the moment, the reins of power are in the hands of a president and a political party whose only goals are the annihilation of anyone who doesn’t share their ideology and the plunder of public resources for private gain. It’s a disgrace, and you’re right: this is the best time for revolutionary change.
